Endemic to Japan(Honshu Kyushu Shikoku). This beautiful animal is almost as big as a domesstic cat yet glides from tree to tree. They are nocturnal, but not particularly difficult to observe. They live very near to mmetropolitann areas such as Tokyo, and even live within temple compounds. The Giant Flying Squirrel can be seen at night an hour by train from Tokyo, on Mt. Takao. A popular tourist sites.
